Simple Ways to Get Into Crafting

Simple Ways to Get Into Crafting

Not everyone likes crafting. It’s as simple as that. Some people prefer other hobbies, and that’s okay. But there are some people who would like crafting if given the proper first project. Think about it this way—a kid isn’t going to like soccer if they jumped right into practicing with the pros. It would be too overwhelming. It’s the same thing with crafting; some projects, crafts, and ideas work better than others to introduce a person to this calming world. So what’s the best craft for a non-crafter? We’ve listed out a few simple ways to get into crafting that provide a good introduction into this world. Check it out!

Candle and Soapmaking

If your non-crafter loves soaps and candles, then this may be just the trick to convince them to try crafting. Especially if they’re into eco-friendly and sustainable practices, you could explain to them about how a lot of store-bought candles aren’t actually good for air quality.

When they fall for this, they’ll fall in love with the joy that comes from making something with their own hands. Use different essential oils and blends to make the perfect scent, and then delve into the candle or soapmaking process. Here are some of our favorite mixes:

  • Lavender and Lemon
  • Eucalyptus and Lavender
  • Lavender, Wild Orange, and Ylang Ylang
  • Wild Orange and Cinnamon

Knitting and Crocheting

You know we love these needle-art wonders. Not only does the methodic rhythm and clicking of needles soothe tension, but it’s an easy step into the world of crafting. Now, the prospective crafter doesn’t have to knit the most intricate pattern. Just starting with a simple scarf, with easy stitches, can provide a sense of accomplishment that so many people love. Paint by Numbers

Get your non-crafter friends to fall in love with painting by starting with paint by numbers. A lot of people step away from painting because they’re worried about not being good at it. But everyone starts somewhere, and this is where they’ll start! You don’t have to get your templates from the kids’ section (though you definitely can!), as they make plenty of intricate paint by numbers for adults these days. It’s one of the simplest ways to get into crafting!

Scrapbooking

Pick up some paper, some fabric, some buttons, and whatever else you want, and get creating. If you’ve got a photographer on your hands, encourage them to explore crafting by using their photos. If they want it to last longer or make it a gift for their friends, then they can partner their photos with some scrapbooking skills. Even if they’re not a photographer, scrapbooking is an excellent way to hold on to memories apart from social media. Not to mention, it’s such an easy start into the world of crafting!
